A Sad Anniversary

Haley PaigeTime is a funny concept. There are stretches where the minutes are dragging so slowly, it hardly seems possible to get through the day. Then you blink your eyes and an entire year has come and gone. It’s difficult to imagine, but today is the one year anniversary of the passing of Haley Paige.

I knew Haley the way most everyone here at VideoBox knew Haley. Meaning I did not know her at all. Only from her movies. Yet I always felt a connection with Haley. It’s elusive to pinpoint why I had those feelings. The best way I can describe it, is that from the very first time I saw Haley, I could sense a vulnerability in her eyes. As if I knew she needed protection from the elements she would confront in her chosen line of work. Unfortunately, the people closest to Haley in her final years, chose to exploit, rather than safeguard her. When word of Haley’s demise was posted in the movie review comments, I knew in my gut it was true, even as others were classifying it as a false rumor. Some things you just know.

I’m still able to enjoy the work that Haley left for us. However, today I want to remember Haley as not just an adult film performer, but as a human being. The two pictures I’ve included here are my favorites of Haley. The first shows Haley out on a typical day, possibly returning from lunch at the mall. The second spots Haley sitting at the dinner table. It looks like it may be Thanksgiving. I see stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce. I’m imagining a turkey placed at the center of the table and mashed potatoes in the covered casserole dish. This is how I like to remember Haley, in happier times.

I agree about the vulnerability, Rope, that’s what makes her work so hot, actually. It opens up a lot of questions about the exploitative nature of all this, not the fact that she died, but how so many people who have never met her felt and feel about it. If she didn’t have that vulnerability, would she have been a good pornstar? Not as good, safe to say, but then again, maybe she wouldn’t be dead either. Hmmm…kinda deep. Better go beat off and forget about it.

  2. ECL928 Says:

I love haley paige and I was actually pretty shocked to find that she had passed away. You are right it’s weird how time flies by because it feels like i only read about it just last month. Haley is def one of my most downloaded stars when it comes to this site. I was wondering though has she done any interracial? I don’t think i’ve ever seen her do it. Also I heard that she had died but I didn’t find out how, does anyone know?

*Moment of silence for Haley Paige*

  3. HotScooter2 Says:

    Rope:
no clowning around on this topic. There have been so many pornstars that met tragic deaths. But only Haley’s loss moved me to tears. i was depressed for several days about it. i knew she had left the business and had heard she was trying hard to break her addiction to drugs. She had plans to become either a psychologist or sex therapist . i wanted to know she could go clean and succeed. Unfortunately Haley had lousy taste in men.
Her second husband before they married had beaten her up so bad as to require hospital treatment.as beautiful as she was Haley suffered from very low self esteem, which is probably what led to her heroine addiction.
Ecl you asked how she died they believe her second husband murdered her. But shortly after being questioned by police he fled to northern california, and shortly after his body was found in a motel. it was self afflicted wounds. if my memory is right Haley died from gunshot wounds

  4. along Says:

This is refreshing. Its good to see that some of us are still fit to be called human.
Its sad when someone survives the shit she did, and still dies young.
Rope, wc, ECL, HotScooter, and anyone else who will say something respectable here, I salute you.
    R.I.P. Haley Paige

  5. HotScooter2 Says:

    correction:
from reviewing wikipedia again, the coroner’s report had found no track marks to indicate heroine overdosage which had been rumored as the cause of death, nor is there any indication of murder. actually the coroners report indicated no cause of death.
it may have been a form of prejudice on their part as she was a pornstar and they did not feel like investigating any longer. and it could be true that they were unable to find anything.
I do feel that her husband was behind her death,as he had a history of abuse and the fact that he fled after being questioned. And with his death it appeared as far as i know that it was self inflicted gunshot wounds, and there was no evidence of foul play.
that’s all i know and i am trying to portray as accurate a picture as possible.
In my opinion porn will never again have another lady with as much class as she had.
Like you rope i never met her but i felt like i did. Aand you are so correct with her image of vulnerability thing. Haley was the epitome of the girl next door. and like you roope i continue watching her Scenes,so Alioson and Content dude keep showing any other scenes of her out there not currently on VB

  6. xposh Says:

Never really watched her scenes but it’s sad she died. Obviously a lot of people liked her.

  7. HotScooter2 Says:

    Alison:
you have met a lot of different pornstars. did you ever meet Haley? What were your impressions of her as a person. How did you feel about her loss?

  8. M0N5T3R Says:

feels weird delving into her personal life with those pics, but thanks for posting em. theyre a great window into what was needlessly cut short. her career stands for what its worth, but her life had been priceless. i dont want to tabulate the cost and loss of Haley as a performer, and its not my place to judge what mightve led to the unfortunate outcome. seems like alotta time has passed since then too. i like that everyone can still note the frailty and genuine attitude she put forward – its always the best thing in remembering anyone.

  9. Rael Says:

Hey, I know this is off topic, but I was wondering if you were going to do a blog that tells us who all those chicks on the new “Enter” page are, like you did before.

    Haley, R.I.P.

  10. HotScooter2 Says:

One more thing Haley died too young and too soon. She was only 25

  11. jefe Says:

The year has seemed fast in a lot of other ways, but Haley’s death is one of the few things that puts that time in perspective. I remember very well the rumors early on, and being in denial at first.

Haley was and still is my favorite. I don’t think I could begin to explain why, but that’s how I feel.

I couldn’t watch any of her scenes for several weeks after I was sure of the truth. Eventually, I decided I should either delete all her scenes or start watching them again. I chose the latter, and whenever I see one of her scenes, I still remember the tragedy and a part of me is sad at first. However, her performances have never failed to pull me out of that reality (and mine) for a while.

Still, I can definitely understand members who won’t DL her scenes anymore.

I hope she’s in a better place, now…until I heard rumors about her death and looked for answers, I didn’t know anything about the troubles in her personal life, but it was sad in its own right.

  12. ropeadope Says:

@ wcfields – You raise some thought provoking questions. I’m not sure if I can accept the premise that Haley’s vulnerability was the genesis of her success in front of the camera. But I certainly can’t rule it out. In fact, after reading through your comments several times, my head is spinning.

@ ECL928 – iafd.com lists five interracial scenes that Haley appeared in. The most notable would probably be in the movie Lingerie #2, where Haley performed with Lexington Steele. I’ve yet to see a definitive explanation of all the details surrounding Haley’s passing. You could start with the article at Wikipedia and check the other links listed under references at the bottom of the page. HotScooter2 has provided a good summary of the events as we know them.

@ HotScooter2 – I know we had very similar feelings toward, and impressions of Haley. Obviously we weren’t alone, as many others felt the same way. I remember communicating on the board with you the day the news broke. Agreed, at four months shy of her 26th birthday, Haley was taken far too soon.

@ along – Right back at you bro. The details of Haley’s childhood and teen years were distressing enough on their own. When it rains, it pours.

@ xposh – So much to choose from. Sounds like you have a lot of viewing / downloading to catch up on.

@ M0N5T3R – A quick note on those pics. They were posted by Haley’s dad in the aftermath of her passing to give some insight into the “real life” Haley, when she wasn’t performing for the camera. A life may very well be best measured by the impact the person had on others, as opposed to purely individual accomplishments the person achieved.

@ Rael – Wow, I just took my first look and that’s a gorgeous page. Alison did the previous post on the topic, I’ll let her fill in the details.

@ jefe – Extremely well stated. In my case, I was always able to continue watching Haley’s scenes. I look at it this way. Haley gave her all to create the body of work she left behind. I believe Haley would still want her fans to watch and enjoy her efforts.

  13. Cnote Says:

While I feel it is somewhat taboo to watch porn that involves a diseased person, I also feel that getting rid of it would be somewhat disrespectful. She did this for a living, and SEEMED to enjoy doing it. Completely erasing her from memory and ignoring that she did this isnt really the way to go about it IMO. I have alot of her scenes, but I havent really watched any of her scenes since her passing. I may someday sooner or later, but it just feels weird.

I hope wherever Haley is, she is at peace.

  14. Indy7 Says:

Some fans of Haley no longer watch her scenes,
after her passing. But some of her fans continue
to watch her scenes as a way of a tribute to her
as a pornstar. I would put myself on the first group.
But I can totally respect others who fall under
the 2nd group. We all handle things differently.

  15. Ravo2006 Says:

That was nice Rope, certainly a beautiful young girl who left way too early and a year on still touches the members of this site.

  16. Whackitgood Says:

    TOO MUCH INFORMATION!

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t want to know too much about pornstars personal lives…or hollywood stars personal lives either.

Porn is for fantasy…I don’t want to meet them. I don’t care how they are in real life. The more I get to “know” them in real life, the less I enjoy their performances.

A prime example is Jenna…I used to really like watching her, but after she announced her retirement in a really nasty way…I just don’t care any more.

Same for Mel Gibson and his nasty comments about Jews… I used to like his movies, now not so much.

It sucks that Haley had a bad life, and because she’s been talked about ad naseum in the comments, I just can’t get into her scenes.

  17. Luke Wilson Says:

What about a compilation dvd featuring deceased pornstars??

    DEADBEATS?

  18. HotScooter2 Says:

    Luke:

i find no other way to put it than to say that your remark was not only very immature but also very much not in the slightest bit funny. did it occur to you that pornstars are people too,and not just fuck machines .
i am probably in error even acknowledging the garbage remark of yours.

  19. ropeadope Says:

@ Cnote & Indy7 – I admit to being surprised that so many in the membership avoid scenes of deceased performers. But I certainly do not condemn this approach. It is completely up to each individual person to make their own decision. There is no right or wrong answer.

@ Ravo2006 – Thank you. It appears Haley has had an impact on a great number of people.

@ Whackitgood – Blessed are the ignorant. Or is it ignorance is bliss.

@ Luke Wilson – You could create a very nice compilation by using the VideoBox archives. Your suggested title is obviously in questionable taste (although clever). Let’s try changing the title to make the idea more politically correct. I propose the following:

    Legends of Porn #1

Scene 1 Haley Paige – Open For Anal #1 sc. 3
Scene 2 Anna Malle – Cumback Pussy #3 sc. 3
Scene 3 Britney Madison – A Good Source Of Iron sc. 2
Scene 4 Naughtia Childs – Naughty Little Nymphos #3 sc. 3
Scene 5 Julie Robbins – Sperm Filled Sluts #2 sc. 5
Scene 6 Teri Diver – Denim sc. 1
Bonus Haley Paige – Jon Dough’s Butt Cream Pie #2 sc. 3

Note: Scene 6 and the bonus scene both yield a twofer (co-star).

@ HotScooter2 – Does the change in title make it more palatable for you?

  20. HotScooter2 Says:

yea Rope the change in title would be much more apropo. mayber Luke did not mean any harm by his title, but my first reaction was to just take offense to it. you know me i tend to speak my mind

  21. jefe Says:

Hmm…looking at “Legends” and not seeing any of my Haley favorites, I thought that might be a worthwhile, related side topic.

imho, and in no particular order: Greased Lightning, Scene 4; School of Cock, ATM, Scene 1; Teacher’s Pet 7, Scene 1 (lousy acting, but as a teacher, it fulfills a few fantasies in a non-career ending way).

  22. Rael Says:

Yeah, the new intro page is hot as hell, and I have no clue who most of those chicks are. I think I recognise Hillary Scott, but other than, nothing.

  23. Luke Wilson Says:

HotScooter2 —- I’m as compassionate as the next guy – i just thought it was a clever title and seriously.. how many circles of friends can you tell and how many times do you get that oppurtunity to deliver that particular line?
    Sorry.

  24. jefe Says:

“how many circles of friends can you tell”

As much as I agreed with HotScooter2’s comments, I can appreciate this sentiment…if you can’t express yourself here, where can you?

That said, I don’t care much for your title. It’s somewhat clever, but I don’t like it.

  25. Luke Wilson Says:

Was a gag – its obviously not very nice.

  26. Garp Says:

I enjoy porn like the next red-blooded American male. Also, I like most guys would love to do porn if I could remain unknown, but porn is just not natural for women. Women find one man to fulfill all their needs, Men need many women to fulfill our one need. So when I see a girl like Haley in porn, I hope they can take full advantage of the financial gain and not let it beat them. fact is there are not many women like Nina Hartley who can kick porn’s ass for two decades. Rest in peace Haley and let’s hope for more Nina’s and less Haley’s in porn.

  27. nurtles Says:

Life, especially in such a degrading business as hardcore pornography isn’t a cakewalk I suppose. Why not let her rest in peace instead of making a commotion?

  28. HotScooter2 Says:

    Luke:
apology accepted. i will just let your remark slide. i have no reason to doubt that you are also a compassionate person. take care

  29. ropeadope Says:

@ HotScooter2 – Good man. I count on you to keep everyone honest.

@ jefe – Good choice of titles. With several dozen scenes representing Haley on the site, it’s hard to narrow it down that precisely. You may recall Haley’s scene from School Of Cock, Class of Ass to Mouth made my December 2005 look back post.

@ Rael – Could it be the VideoBox office staff on casual dress Friday?

@ Luke Wilson – I don’t believe everyone caught the full meaning of your proposed title. I thought it was clever (in a double entendre kind of way) and took no offense.

@ Garp – I’ll sign on to the second half of your remarks but I can’t get on board with the double standard that the first half endorses.

@ nurtles – No commotion. Just a fond remembrance. Lol, I hope you’re not planning on being in charge of the “Remembering Rope Anniversary,” one year after I’m gone.

  30. davros Says:

Thank you for posting this, Rope. Like many others on here I became a fan of her work and was shocked to hear of her passing. It’s tragic that many women in porn pass on way too soon. I don’t know what it was about her work that I found so entertaining, but she will always be one of my favorites.

  31. ECL928 Says:

I actually just read up on all the pornstars that have passed in the last few years and all of them in a horrible way. Overdoses, car accidents, murder, suicide. It’s so sad…. Just because you choose to be ignorant of your fantasy stars life doesn’t mean you can’t think it’s a sad thing that they passed away. I can understand if you read that they did something super morally wrong but if they died I think you should be able to say “It’s horrible and def shouldn’t have happened.”

  32. alison Says:

HotScooter2 – No, I did not have the opportunity to meet Haley. As for her loss, it definitely made me sad. She seemed like a very nice girl in a very bad relationship who died much too young. A terrible tragedy no matter what she did for a living. It was really nice of Rope to take the time to put together this post. I think Haley would be honored by it.

  33. HotScooter2 Says:

    Alison:
thanks for replying to my questions. you would hhave been called in my day a groovy chic. a big cyberhug to a real sweet lady

  34. James Says:

First saw Hailey on a website called *************.com, or something like that. She did a threesome with two guys. One of the true greats of porn, sweet, innocent, and able to amaze you from scene to scene. God bless, take care.

  35. ropeadope Says:

@ davros – More than welcome my friend. No question, Haley had that certain something. She could be angelic and pristine, naughty and hot, all at the same time.

@ ECL928 – I agree completely re expressing one’s feelings on the passing of a favorite performer. Horrific circumstances surrounding so many of the deaths. I don’t have the statistics, maybe it’s like this in other fields? But something tells me this line of work brings a heightened degree of tragic ends.

@ James – Well stated (I did need to remove the name of the specific website you listed). But I fully agree with the traits you itemized and Haley’s ability to crank out scene after scene of excellence.

@ Alison – Thank you so much, it was all my pleasure. Your words are greatly appreciated.

  36. emefer Says:

may you live long and prosper
