New Feature: Favorite Stars
We just added the ability for you to add stars to your favorites.
Why use favorite stars?
Let’s say there are several girls you really like. Favorite stars lets you see all their videos in one place.
Also, every time you visit VideoBox, you can quickly check to see if there are any new updates from your favorite stars.
How does it work?
To add a star to your favorites
- Click on a star’s name anywhere (like on the DVD details page, or a search results page)
- You’ll now go to a page listing all the videos of that star
- On this page, you’ll see a button that says “Add Star to Favorites”
- Just click that button
And from the VideoBox home page, you’ll see a new link in the “Quick Links” section called “My Favorite Stars”. Click there and you’ll see all the videos from your favorite stars.
Finaly, you can edit this list under the “My VideoBox==>MyFavorite Stars” tab.
Coming Soon
Some anticipated features include
- Alerts whenever we add a video from your favorite stars (RSS or email)
- Recommendations for favorite stars
- Star pages with comments, profile information, and related stars
Please let us know what you think of this new feature.
Thanks!
Josh

This is a very good tool. I suggest adding male actors in the descriptions of videos and the ability to add them to our favorites lists. This would not only help the female viewers of videobox with their favorites, but add to aid the male viewers with their choices of videos as well. What do all of you out there think of that idea?

Thanks for this feature.
Correct tagging and consistent names for the stars would also help to find all the scenes of a favorite star. I really hope this gets better in the feature.
I agree with brushman, adding male performers would be great, especially in combination with the possibility to search for scene pairings.

Very good feature! I will use it

Excellent idea. There are certain stars I do look for and this will be a great way of ensuring I do not miss their scenes. Also I imagine it will be a good way of locating stuff in the archives that we may have missed. As to giving men’s names, I imagine that for most of us this will be a means of avoiding the stunt cocks we really cannot stand. All in all though another good improvement to the site. Nice one VB.

I’m going to do an Open Records request to see if anyone marks Audrey Hollander as a favorite.

Will the RSS feed only be on your favourite stars or will this also be for new videos that gets published in general? Would love to see an RSS feed for videos. You could even put this into subcategories as in an Evil Angel feed, Vivid feed and an overall feed.
Any news about upgrades of subscriptions for those of us who still can’t see EA and Vivid vids because of our biller?

The totals seem to be inconsistent. The home page says I have 661 scenes with favorites, but when I open it there are only 607. Granted that still alot, but I’m curious about the math.
Also, while I’m typing, I’d like to see a feature where I could look for scenes without a tag. Like all Audrey Hollinder scenes without Anal (result = 0)

Great new feature. This is the kind of feature that makes me happy that I got a long-term membership to Videobox

Can you add something to put a check mark next to a DVD or scene that we have already favorited?
June 29th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Only problem I see is when names are not correctly labeled or completed on the site.
For example: Jennifer Dark, she has a few videos that just say “Jennifer”, am I gonna have to favorite “Jennifer” too or what?

I’m glad you guys like the new feature. Some responses:
brushman — we used to display male stars, but stopped because it makes the pages heavier, with information that most people don’t care about. But if there’s enough demand, we could bring it back.
Hamtili and Dean1987 — you’re right that our star names can be inconsistent. We’re working on fixing them, but it’s a big problem that will take time to resolve. In the meantime, you can add each of the individual aliases to your favorites.
Mischief — there’s a bug in the how the total number of scenes is counted. On the home page, we need to factor in scenes that have more than one star from your favorite. In any event, we’re planning to fix this bug.

I hope VideoBox takes a look at the actresses that are favorited the most, and maybe uses that in future content purchases.

Very nice feature. Thanks.
One nice spin off is that this would show who the most popular stars are.

started employing the stars feature as soon as i noticed it. One feature that would be worth exploring is compatability with smartphones. Just upgraded. After watching an episode of its always sunny in philadelphia on youtube I thought i’d check out this site. Sadly, the video did not load up. Even at the lower quality of the flash player, the quality is loads better than most youtube vids, so i’m guessing that its simply too much file? serves me right for being that much of a perv that i’d try to watch orgy sex parties #3 in the breakroom.

Freaking awesome. I’ve been waiting for this feature for a long time. It would be cool if we could also rate the stars, so that their average rating will not be based on their scenes, as i presume it is now.

Damn it, i’ve already spent ages making my own favorite stars list up in My Videobox…

Without the alert feature, I don’t see how this really helps that much. As it is, you can click the star’s name and see the most recent scene first. In terms of star identification, a useful feature would be to list the other names a star uses if you have a scene from her under that secondary name on VB; this might be an alternative to changing names with alternate spellings. Thirdly, fixing the search engine so that it doesn’t respond to every three letter combination in a short search name would also help.

how about a playlist that you create. something where you pick the start and end of your favorite scenes an then you can program them to play one after the other. people could share their favorite playlist.

Are there problems with this feature right now? I’ve tried adding a few stars in both Opera, Chrome and IE, but after clicking an “add to my favourite stars” link I’m just redirected to the front page and when I check out the favourite stars page it just says:
“You do not currently have any stars on your My Favorite Stars list…”

While I’m at it, I would like to add that all to often when I do a search, I am bounced back to the home page. That happens about 80% of the time. Oh, and thanks for adding the new feature and working to make the site more user friendly. I find it very easy to use and well put together and my quibbles are just that. But the best does stay the best by constantly improving, which you are obviously continually trying to do. Hats off!!

One name inconsistency: Daisy Marie and Daisy are usually the same person.

Lucy Lee also is a hungarian AND an Asian actress

This feature still isn’t working for me in any browser. Could someone please tell me if it’s working for them right now, and also what it says in the statusbar in your browser when you hover your mouse over an “Add to My Favourite Stars” link?
Mine just points to http://www.videobox.com/member/beta/search.seam, and while I won’t rule out that could be right as I obviously don’t know how their system works, it certainly looks to me like it’s missing a bunch of a parameters I would expect in a link that should perform a function like this.

I’m getting a “Your comment is awaiting moderation” for the one I just posted, probably because it contains a link (though an internal VB link), so I’m just gonna try a workaround.

Hooray for school! Hooray for Videobox! Hooray for this feature! Also, I’m definitely down for a male star listing, but just as long as we will be able to block certain stars from ever appearing on our screens so I’ll never hear Nick Manning’s stupid voice ever again. Seriously, can someone punch that guy in the face…repeatedly.
