Recent Happenings in the World of Porn

Here’s a little update for folks who may not have the time or desire to read all the industry “news” and gossip blogs out there.

Tera PatrickTera Patrick Retires from Porn
After filing for divorce from husband Evan Seinfeld (Spyder Jonez), Tera Patrick has told industry blogger Cindi Loftus that she is finished with porn. She has a memoir coming out soon that she claims gets into the scandalous details of her life in porn. I’ll let you guys know if it’s any good.
Katja KassinKatja Kassin Also Calls it Quits
Katja Kassin wrote a message to her fans on the Adult DVD Talk message board that broke the news that she is retiring from porn. She simply seems to have gotten to the end of the road and is looking for something else to do. Luckily for her fans, she shot over 450 movies in her career, hopefully leaving even die hard fans plenty of viewing material for the foreseeable future.
war machineFormer UFC Fighter Ruins Birthday Party
At a recent birthday party for Brooke Haven, ex-fighter and current porn “star” War Machine attacked five men, sending two to the hospital. It’s not entirely clear what happened, but it seems that the men were alerted that Mr. Machine had just hit girl/friend Alanah Rae in the face and verbally confronted him about it. (Alanah says she was not hit.) WM claims self-defense, but all witnesses who have come forward thus far said the attack was unprovoked. War Machine is also currently facing charges for attacking a doorman at a gay club in Las Vegas.
studyNew Study: Porn is Okay After All
The University of Montreal School of Social work has released results from a study examining the effects of pornography on men’s attitudes about women and relationships. A sample of 20 hetersexual men revealed that almost all men watch porn at times and that viewing porn has no bearing on their ability to respect women and function normally in society. While 20 is not even close to a reasonable sample size, it comes as no surprise to me that most men don’t want to date girls who look like porn stars, they merely want to jerk off to (on?) them.
Penny FlamePenny Flame Gets Blog on Huffington Post
The Huffington Post, a liberal news and opinion site, has secured Jennifer Ketcham (aka Penny Flame) as a contributing writer. Jennifer/Penny is featured on the current season of Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew seeking treatment for sex addiction. In my opinion, she’s the only tolerable person on the show, so while her first blog entry on HuffPost is a little weird, let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it’ll get better from there.
avn2010 AVN Award Nominations Announced
Here’s the list. Tell me the truth, guys – does anyone care about this? My gut says no, but I’ve been wrong about these sorts of things before.

Thank you for the update Alison. A few random observations:

I never realized how many award categories are issued by AVN. Took me forever just to read through them. One of the most intriguing competitions is for Best New Starlet. I’ll be pulling for Tanner Mayes, but pretty much the entire list is capable of walking away with the trophy. You must have had ESP when you wrote the blog entry on Kagney Linn Karter. You predicted she would be the “next big thing,” and she’s one of the nominees. Possibly even the favorite?

I know nothing about UFC, but you have to suspect if the guy’s name is War Machine, you should probably approach with caution. It’s like when you meet someone named Jeeves. It’s a good bet he’s a butler / valet.

May I assume Evan Seinfeld is from a different branch of the family tree than Jerry Seinfeld?

  2. The Content Dude Says:

Rope i believe the fictitious Jerry hails from Long Island whereas Evan grew up in Crown Heights

  3. ropeadope Says:

@ The Content Dude – lol, I was born and lived in Crown Heights for 25+ years. More than a decade prior to Evan though. Small world.

    Alison:

just learned something new. hadn’t recalled seeing anything recently of Tera Patrick,i was under the impression that she had retired several years ago. in my opinion she was one that was highly attractive and also very intelligent. she was a legend of porn and will be missed

  5. HotScooter2 Says:

Did anyone notice that AVN failed to nominate VB for best adult website. i find this very peculiar since most adult paysite reviews rate VB in the top five, and many review sites rate VB #1.
in my opinion this is a tragic overlook on the part of AVN. but i am not one that is impressed with awards ceremonies anyway

  6. Rael Says:

What? Scandalous details in porn? How will she ever come up with those?

And Penny Flame is in treatment for sex addiction? Wha?

  7. Rael Says:

Holy. Shit. I just saw that Tori Black has done an anal scene. How many has she done? I must have them.

  8. petermc Says:

Tori Black has done at least 3 anal scenes that I am aware of. One in Tori Black is Pretty Filthy, another in Big Wet Asses (the latest one, 16 or 17) and also in an Interactive DVD for Zero Tolerance (which is awesome by the way).

Sad to hear about Tera, just when she had started doing some anal scenes (no great ones yet but it was a start). Was hoping she’s do some more hardcore stuff after splitting with Evan but alas not.

  9. Rael Says:

Yeah, I just bought Tori Black is Pretty Filthy. Pretty damn good, all the scenes. I’ll have to check out the interactive one. Sounds awesome.

Regarding the 2010 AVN Awards, they now have a category for Best Adult Website and VB didn’t get nominated? You must post the good stuff when nomination time comes around (or give away free memberships to the voters).

I have never followed this award show but I wonder how “Unsung Starlet of the Year” award would help a career. And my money is on Sasha to win the Jenna Jameson Crossover Star of the Year award (look it up, but don’t ask me what it means). In a sign of credibility, Mark Wood was not nominated for male talent of the year. But he was for the Hall of Fame so never mind.

  11. Papayaman1 Says:

In a way I’m pleased to see that Tera Patrick and Katja Kassin are calling it a day. I get the sense that porn is a business that can use a woman up and its good that they have made their money and can get out of it and move on to the next phase of their lives. For my part I wish them both luck. As for War Machine on the other hand, maybe he could develop a career as poster boy in campaigns against the dangers of steroids and whatever else he adds to his cocktail of mindbending drugs.

  12. allcomers2 Says:

Another Topic: Tiger Woods allegedly had sex/an affair with pornstar Holly Sampson.

  13. Juanxyzzy Says:

Gee Tera, I wonder what could possibly be scandalous about the world of porn?

  14. DP Says:

Ok, the Penny Flame blog article was just bizarre.

I’m glad to see Tera Patrick is retiring from porn. I say good riddance. Never really appreciated her poor acting skills, and, in my personal opinion she was over-exposed and over-rated, much in the same way that Gianna Michaels is today. Again just my view, and personal preferences not trying to offend anyone.

As far as the AVN nominations, they are actually good to read. I could care less about the actual awards, but the nominations give me a good perspective on some aspects of the field that I might not have seen. For instance, I had no idea there was a 3D porn film coming out. Also I find it tough to keep track of the myriad of different numbered releases from various studios, so I see nominations lists as a way to focus my attention.

  15. Juanxyzzy Says:

3D porn? You know we’ll all be ducking during the money shots.

  16. numbles Says:

All Awards at sometime jump the shark and become a thing thats only interesting for people that are insiders in the same business. AVN jumped the shark for me like 3 years ago.

  17. Poag Says:

Hey, nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Keep up the good work!

  18. Jeff Says:

Poag… shhhhhh…. we’re using Wordpress too ;-) . It’s customized a bit, which you can do too. But be forewarned: deep diving into Wordpress installations/modifications will be a serious hit on your free time for surfing VB.
