Contest: Predict Date Of Scene # 50,000
New contest for the blog readership. As I write these words, we’ve just surpassed 43,500 scenes at VideoBox. Your challenge is to predict the date that scene # 50,000 will be uploaded to the site. The scene totals as shown on the upper right of the VideoBox homepage (under quick links) will be the official contest number. The individual who projects the correct date, or comes closest to the actual date without going past the date, will be declared the winner. Submit your predictions as a reply to the post in the following manner: Month/Day/Year. Once a date is selected, that date is locked up and no longer available to claim. As entries arrive, I will post periodic summaries of the dates taken thus far. Contest is open until 11:59 PM Pacific Time on 12/31/09. The winning prize is a VideoBox mug. Please, only one prediction per household.
Important: Please Read Update Inside
As an example, let’s assume scene # 50,000 appears one year from today on December 9, 2010. Let’s further assume the following predictions were submitted: December 1, 2010, December 10, 2010, December 11, 2010, etc. The winner would be the entry for December 1, 2010. Even though December 10, 2010 is closer to the actual date, December 1, 2010 is the closest submission which did not go past the correct date.
Below is an artist rendition of what the VideoBox mug may look like. The mug has not yet been manufactured, but I believe this will be a close approximation to the eventual mug. Perfect for both hot and cold beverages, especially delicious, sweet, hot chocolate. Picture the following scenario. It’s a bitter cold, snowy, icy, blustery winter day. You’re indoors, next to the window, relaxing in your rocker-recliner lounge chair, anticipating the next VideoBox update. You glance out the window as pedestrians slip, slide, and stumble on the treacherous footing. You crack the window open just a smidge, and can faintly hear hip bones dislocating as seniors are beaten down by Mother Nature. You reach for your VideoBox mug which is filled to the rim with smooth, velvety, piping hot chocolate and take a deep sip. Mmmmm, all is good with the world.
The contest is now open. Submit your predictions as a reply to the post before your chosen date is swallowed up by another.
Please be sure the email address placed in the comment form is valid, as that is how the winner will be contacted.
Update: It was brought to my attention that the scene totals on the VideoBox homepage will display differently depending on the level of one’s membership. I was not aware of this. A standard membership subscriber will see a lower scene total than a member who subscribes to one or both of the premium channels. In this contest, we’re looking for the date that VideoBox reaches 50,000 scenes among all its channels, including Evil Angel and Vivid. I want to be fair to everyone. If you already submitted your prediction under incorrect assumptions, I will allow one change to be made. If you decide to submit a revision, please do so as soon as possible. The revision can only be made to an earlier date from the original submission, not to a later date. And of course, if you submit a revision, you no longer own the date of your original prediction. I apologize for the problem; my fault entirely.
Update 2: The Content Dude has graciously sweetened the pot by adding a one year VideoBox membership to the winning prize!

Hey rope, have you guys noticed that the date indexes for all the DVDs uploaded in December are screwed up? This makes the prediction a tad harder, since right now DVDs originally uploaded in November are also showing up in December uploads. Right now the VB new updates page shows 10 new DVDs for 12-09-09, but in fact 5 of them are from older dates which have mysteriously overflowed to this date. Things are fucked up really bad bro…

@ Shahram – I’m not seeing that. If I click on New DVD’s from the VideoBox homepage, the December uploads are showing up correctly. Please check again. Maybe they were fouled up earlier and have now been fixed? EDIT – Oops, we cross posted and I hadn’t read your most recent comment when I wrote the above. We’ll get it straightened out.

So far on VB, each dvd has approximately 5.397377 scenes.
VB needs 7609 scenes to get to 50,000.
That means 1409 dvds to go.
At five dvds per day, there’s 281 days to go.
The 50,000th scene will appear on Sept 19, 2010.
If I didn’t screw up the math, and if the ratios hold.

Tell me the number you see listed for scenes and tell me if your membership is standard, standard + evil angel, standard + vivid, or standard + evil angel + vivid. Thank you.

rope: I predicted yesterday that you might encounter a problem. You are counting the number of scenes from VB+EV+VIVID. Many of us are not subscribed to premium channels and see a smaller number. I have accounted for all the scenes (including premium channels) on my estimate. If you change the rules, you should let me (and others) to change our estimates too

@ Shahram – Lol, where were you before I posted the contest? Your assumption in accounting for all the scenes (including premium channels) was correct. I’m attempting to get permission to expand the rules as opposed to changing the rules. Award a mug each time scene # 50,000 arrives on the site. But obviously if the rules are changed, everyone will have the opportunity to adjust their forecasts. I’ll post an update once I receive an answer.

As of 7:15 PM Pacific Time on 12/24/09 VideoBox has 43,969 scenes uploaded to the site which includes 1,105 scenes from Evil Angel and 1,202 scenes from Vivid.
You may wonder why the Evil Angel scene count advanced by 34 scenes when it appears only 28 scenes were added to the channel since the previous scene count check on 12/13/09. The answer is that an additional 6 scenes were added to Tristan Taormino’s Ultimate Guide To Anal Sex For Women which was the Evil Angel update on 12/12/09.

I have a recurring membership, that expired on march 1, but was renewed today, march 5 (same info/member number could be different). Without going into great detail, it was an error/oversight on my part. My question to you is- will my prediction if accurate still be honored for all applicable rewards? @ mitchrocn22 – Absolutely. This will not be a problem. In fact, I happen to think your prediction stands a good chance of taking down the prize. When I initially proposed this contest to VideoBox, I offered the opinion that scene number 50,000 would probably arrive right around July 1, 2010. If that turns out to be true, guess who wins? Barring unforeseen circumstances (for example, VideoBox changing the number of daily uploaded DVD’s), I believe the main contenders are (from earliest to latest predicted date) Hanacoco, polksalad1, yourself, garbman, tso, stephencolbert, and Microphone. A few others (beens, davros, Shahram, chubber, xray, etc.) with longer chances. It should be great fun as we move closer and closer to 50,000 scenes.
