Hello Videobox Members,
It’s been a very short time since we rolled out our improved clip creation method, and the new ability to save your own set of custom clips. For many of you, as your blog comments testify, you had a sense we were heading in a specific direction.
And you were right…
The New “Clips” Page
Starting today, you’ll find a new “Clips” section on the Browse tab. And therein, you’ll find all the clips being created by yourself and other Videobox members. Welcome to the Videobox Clips community!
For those of you not “in the know”, the term “Beta” typically applies to an initial but “not-yet-finalized” product release. In simple terms, it’s not quite finished, but it’s stable enough to get it into your hands and see what you make of it. And what you make of your favorite scene bits and pieces.
3 Ways To Explore Clips
There are now three different ways you’ll be able to access clips: My Clips, the Clips “beta” page, and a User’s Profile page.
1. My Clips – You already know about that. All your favorite clips reside in “Clips” under the “My Videobox” tab.
2. Clips – This is the entire clip creation world at your fingertips.
3. User Profile Page – Visit any user profile page by clicking on their name in a comment, or by clicking the “Creator” name in a clip, and you’re able to easily check out all the other cool clips they’ve created.
Here’s where it get’s even more exciting: If you find a clip you like, you can save that clip directly to your My Videobox “Clips” collection. You can also rate the clip, and comment on the clip. You can even bang clip comments, just like you can with scenes and DVDs.
Your user profile settings enable you to choose to opt-out of being identified as a clip creator. Clips created by a user who has chosen to remain anonymous show the creator as just that. “Anonymous”.
So where is this all headed?
Although I’m typically cagey and restrained about the roadmap, I will say that this is definitely just the beginning. You will have sorting, you will have renaming and retagging, and yes, you will have listings and rankings of the latest creations, highest rated clips, most active clip-creators, and more. We have more surprises on the way. Some of the comments and suggestions on my last post are so close to the mark that i am biting my lip so hard, it’s bleeding.
The clips page is yet another step towards enabling the most engaging, dynamic, and satisfying user experience we can imagine.
PS: I want to point out that Bob (who’s also posting on the blog this week about yet-another feature enhancement) and Jimmy, two of our crack-shot engineers, are responsible for this surfacing as a beta release today. They’re an awesome team to work with, filled with a passion to innovate and deliver a paradim-shifting level of features and functionality. So kudos are due in their direction. You’re seeing this now because they wanted you to badly enough to go into heads-down engineering mode for days on end and make it happen.
