UPDATE 2: SOD Caught Up

UPDATE 8/13/15: We have added the previously-missed SOD updates to the site. Here’s hoping this is the end of our content woes for this channel. Happy streaming!

UPDATE 8/3/15: We received a new batch of content from Soft On Demand last week and were able to post a new title last weekend. Updates to the channel will continue normally from here forward. We are looking into the timing involved in adding the missed updates and I will post more news as soon as we have it.

Once again, we apologize for the situation and will continue to make every effort to prevent it in the future. My original post is below.

Dear SOD Subscribers,

Due to logistical challenges with getting content from Japan to the USA, we do not have a Soft On Demand content update for this week. We are communicating with the studio and doing everything we can to track down the content as soon as possible. We are very sorry for the inconvenience; we know how important it is that new content hit the site on time, and this is doubly true in the case of a channel upgrade. Please rest assured that we have done everything in our power to prevent this from happening, but have been unable to overcome the various obstacles we faced.

As soon as we have the content on our premises and encoded, we will post the missing update(s) immediately. I will provide an update to this post as soon as we have more details for you all.

    @anon: Yup. Plus: customs, communication when neither side speaks the other’s language, and the general vagaries of international shipping… and it seems like it gets harder instead of easier over time.

    Why don’t you guys start adding then ENTIRE MOVIES when they are added to the site! Why are the opening and end titles always cut out? I know the site is set up to watch on a scene by scene basis but the scenes can still be split up without removing parts of the movie. Anyone that doesn’t want to view these parts can simply skip past. A lot of movies have a good opening teaser with the credits before the first scene and we never get to see that on Videobox, and it sucks! And some of us do actually care about being able to see the credits.

    @Mike: the scene trimming is really a matter of preference, and it has been this way since the very early days of the site. Believe it or not, this is the first time we have ever received a complaint or request about it since I have been here (about 6 and a half years). We trim the scenes the way we do to maintain our appeal to the broadest possible user base. For many films, particularly gonzo titles, there’s no reason to keep the intros, as it’s just pieces of the scenes cut up as an intro. Also, many movies that we don’t get on actual DVDs are already cut up into scenes, so we simply encode and post what we have. Sorry that this is less than ideal for you, but we hope you are still able to enjoy what we do have on the site.

    I’m enjoying what’s on the site less and less the longer I’ve been a Videobox member. The quality of the daily updates is so poor that maybe 2 or 3 DVD’s a week are worth watching, and that’s it. Couple this with the editing of content for no reason and it’s probably about time I started looking for an alternative to this service anyway. If you are going to advertise yourself as a DVD movie site you can’t just cut out parts of the main movie on the DVD and call it normal, and as I said no others sites I’ve tried practice this editing tactic so it makes no sense that Videobox must continue doing this.

    @Mike: I’m sorry to hear you’re enjoying what’s on the site less and less. As I mentioned, we have been editing the scenes that way (when they are not already handed off to us edited that way from the studios) for pretty much the lifetime of our business, so this is not something we have recently begun doing. Hopefully the low cost and the gigantic selection we offer can offset some of your feelings about missing the non-sex portions of scenes. Regardless, thanks for the feedback; we appreciate hearing from our members and always discuss and consider the input we get from you.

    I’d be happier with a lot less updates each week if it meant the quality of the movies being added were better. What’s the point of adding 5 new movies a day when most days only one or none of them are even worthy to stash and watch? Videobox please start emphasizing quality of video over quantity.

    @Bob; It speaks volumes about the site when you explain how you get content. You are still getting DVD’s/DVR’s, etc. by mail?

    Back when there were no sites like yours in 2009 and when I subscribed, it was epic and all new. With the creation of several new sites over the years yours sadly has taken a back-burner to reviewers, subscribers, and in-turn this (I’m assuming) effects quality content.

    While your content suffers, this site (minus the “premium” non-sense) is the most navigable in the business, and for that I commend the creators of the site itself (from a designer stand-point, it’s great).

    I cannot, however justify spending 30+ dollars extra for getting actual new content and I cannot because of the design of the site, so I must unsubscribe. Thanks for keeping my little brain out of trouble, and good luck with the site!

    why would you say that – do you think its Videobox’s idea to do things that way or the studios’?

    @NoName100: I have to second @anon‘s question. I’m not sure why you think it’s a commentary about our site that one of our studio partners does business in a certain way; can you say more? Just to clarify, though: we get content in different ways from different studios according to their setup. We can accommodate any content situation from the most to just about the least high-tech imaginable. I do appreciate your compliment on our navigability and design, and I’m sorry if you feel unhappy about the content. We hate to lose a great long-standing customer like you.

    @anon and @Shawn: thanks for the support! You guys are basically correct — most people would be shocked at all of the various elements that go into maintaining VideoBox, and sometimes that involves jumping through some hoops to get the porn into our system. The details aren’t important, though; we just like to make our members as happy as possible, any way we can. Glad to see it looks like you guys are enjoying yourselves with us. Cheers.
