Two months ago in this post, Alison informed us of the emergence and popularity of porn parodies. Intrigued by the concept, I’ve since acquired titles based on two classic television series, The Brady Bunch and Bewitched. In today’s post we’ll begin our look at Not Bewitched XXX. Part 2 of the article will follow in roughly 48 hours. I’ll visit Not The Brady’s XXX in a future blog entry. I think you have to be kind of a dirty girl (in a good way) to get into porn in the first place, but there’s a breed of porn star who seeks out the nastiest, most extreme scenes possible and seems to revel in them.
I’ve picked a list of about 30 girls who I feel might qualify for the title “Porn’s Dirtiest Girl” below. Any Roots fans in the crowd? They released this video, starring Sasha Grey, for a new song called “Birthday Girl.” The song doesn’t appear on their newest album because, according to the group, the lighthearted sound just didn’t fit in with the rest of the songs.
The song/video are cute, but that’s not the main reason I’m posting them. What they bring to mind for me is the concept of a “cross-over” pornstar. In a world where women like Jenna Jameson and Tera Patrick are desperate to get “mainstream” exposure on VH1, what does it mean that Sasha Grey has become an indie darling (she also appeared in a Smashing Pumpkins video recently)? Can/will subculture fame eventually translate into widespread acceptance? Is that even desirable?
My feeling is no. The US isn’t Italy and even if Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends have a reality show, it doesn’t make them mainstream stars. It makes them porn girls with blurred out nipples on basic cable and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

A former co-worker and VB blog enthusiast tipped me off to this interview with Sasha Grey. Not only is Sasha a pretty cool girl, she touches on a lot of very interesting topics (rough porn, unionizing the industry, having relationships with non-porn guys) that I thought readers of the blog would be into. The interview is cut into three parts, so here are links to Part 2 and Part 3.
On a personal note, I had the pleasure of interviewing Sasha shortly after she finished her first movie (Fashionistas: Safado) and it’s awesome to see that she’s used the industry to grow rather than letting it take her over. This is the one girl I doubt will ever get a crappy boob job or start smoking meth. Which makes her 1000% more attractive in my opinion.
Last week, VideoBox released Teen Line: The Blue Room, a very rough movie that spurred a lot of valid controversy. While I have opinions of my own about that kind of porn, I think that the best way to understand what happens on a porn set is to talk to the people who spend their time on porn sets. That’s why I tracked down Brandon Iron.
Brandon is a porn actor and the director of VB favorites like Photographic Mammaries, Intensities in 10 Cities and Bell Bottoms. He’s also well-known for his rougher lines (perhaps ‘notorious’ would be a better word) and I felt that he would bring a valuable perspective to the rough porn issue. Brandon very kindly agreed to take time out of his trip home to Canada to answer my questions. Read on for the in-depth and (I think) fascinating interview.
