Every now and then, I like to update you on what’s happening in the world of porn. Not everyone has time to read fifty different porn blogs, so I’ve condensed the more interesting stories of the last few weeks for your reading pleasure.

Stormy Daniels Arrested for Domestic Battery On July 25th, Stormy was arrested for battery after hitting her husband in the head during a domestic dispute. The fight started because Stormy’s father-in-law did her laundry in a way that was not to her liking. Neither she nor her husband (industry PR guy Mike Moz) have issued any public statements about the incident.

Teagan got engaged July 24th was Ms. Presley’s birthday and her boyfriend Josh gave her an engagement ring that he had created for her. Josh is the father of her child as well as her business partner. He seems like a nice guy and I hope that they have a long and happy marriage. No word yet whether they’ve set a date.

Max Hardcore writes from prison Max Hardcore currently resides in the Metropolitan Detention Center in LA. He recently wrote a letter to Porn Valley News updating them on his case. Max will be appealing his conviction in October to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. Hard to say how it’ll turn out, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the all of the victims of obscenity prosecution.

Pornstar roommates take conflict public Earlier this week, Shawna Lenee posted on Twitter that her roommate, Jenna Presley had slammed her head through her wall and “peed everywhere” because she was on drugs. She also claimed that Presley was taken to a mental hospital. Shawna ended up looking pretty stupid later on when Jenna explained that she was not on drugs, but rather had a Grand mal epileptic seizure. She had to be hospitalized afterward and given her seizure medication intravenously.

Los Angeles theater group planning a porn-themed musical A theater group called The Civilians is currently doing research on the porn industry in preparation for a musical they’re planning to write about the day-to-day lives of stars, directors, producers, and other folks who work in the business. Perhaps a porn blogger character is in order…

If, like me, you couldn’t make it to LA Erotica, you may have missed the results of the third annual FAME Awards. Unlike most other (porn) awards, the FAME Awards invite fans to vote on their favorite stars and movies.

As a side note, there is some controversy about the voting methods used by the FAME Awards and not everyone believes that the awards are on the up and up. Belladonna herself posted these messages to her Twitter on the night of the show:

# I do not support the award show that happened tonight, please do not mention it to me. I only want awards that are REAL!!

# Last year I was lied to and I would rather not have another award that means nothing. Staying true to my word feels good.

Whether you think they’re fixed or not, you can still enjoy the pornographic stylings of the ladies (and gentleman) who won.

A group called Draft Stormy in Louisiana is trying to encourage Wicked contract star Stormy Daniels to challenge the Republican incumbent David Vitter for his senate seat. Vitter espouses very conservative policies, but has been implicated in the D.C. Madam case, making him another in a long line of hypocritical conservative politicians ensnared in sex scandals.

The only even marginally successful porn star-turned-politician that I know of is the former Italian parliamentarian Ilona Staller (aka Cicciolina). American porn stars who’ve attempted to enter politics and failed have included the likes of California’s Marey Carey and Nevada’s Mimi Miyagi.

I don’t know whether U.S. is ready for a porn star politician (I suspect not), but to be honest, if I had the choice between Stormy Daniels and David Vitter, I’d give Stormy a chance. I met her a few years ago and found her to be very intelligent, thoughtful and interesting person. I don’t think that having sex on camera should disqualify a person from holding public office, especially in a country where a pro wrestler can be elected governor of a state (I’m talking about you, Jesse Ventura).

I haven’t covered much in the way of industry news in this blog yet, but that’s mostly due to the dearth of actual news generated by the industry. But Jenna Jameson managed to make actual news last Saturday at the AVN Awards by very ungraciously announcing her intention to “never ever ever spread [her] legs in this industry ever” while presenting the award named in her honor. You can watch the video of her speech here.

Because I managed to catch a hell of a cold at the AVN show, I’ve had some time to sit and reflect on this incident. Many in the industry are taking it as the ultimate slap in the face from a woman whom many of them personally helped make very wealthy and famous.

Jenna’s relationship with porn is a complicated one (if you’ve read her book you know what I mean) and it should surprise no one that she’s lashing out against it yet again. What comes as a surprise to me, personally, is how much everyone seems to care. This may be a controversial stance, but in my opinion, Jenna Jameson hasn’t mattered in the adult industry in a long time. She stopped shooting movies several years ago and has devoted her time to running her own marginally popular company, appearing on basic cable and getting bad plastic surgery. I’ll be the first one to admit that Jenna was a powerhouse in the 1990’s – beautiful, smart, and most of all, profitable. But as she became the “crossover star” her AVN Award indicates, she left porn behind in search of C-list celebrity.

At this point, Jenna is one of the worst spokespersons we could have. She does nothing good for the industry by repeatedly trying to escape it. What porn really needs is someone like Stormy Daniels, the recipient of Jenna’s “crossover star of the year” award. A woman who loves her job, loves her fans, and who can proudly say (as she did), “I plan on spreading my legs for this industry for quite some time!” Representing a maligned industry is a hard job – one that Jenna is clearly not cut out for anymore. So I say: Let her go. We’re all better off.
